The SSG Landers, the second-ranked team in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), will build a “complete team” and start a full-scale fight to regain the top spot.
“Foreign pitcher Kirk McCarty will appear against LG on the 23rd and throw short pitches,” said SSG manager Kim Won-hyung, ahead of the first game of the second half of the 2023 KBO season against the LG Twins at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 21st, “and foreign hitter Guillermo Heredia will arrive on the 22nd to adjust his physical condition.”
McCarty hasn’t pitched since the 22nd of last month due to a forearm (the muscle between the elbow and wrist) injury.
McCarty was initially scheduled to pitch in a Futures League game between the Hanwha Eagles’ second team and the Hanwha Eagles’ second team on Nov. 21 to get a feel for the game, but that game was canceled due to rain and McCarty decided to join the first team immediately.
Heredia left for the U.S. on Oct. 10 to complete the administrative process to become a U.S. citizen.
Heredia will return to the country to recover from jet lag and get back into the swing of things.
The addition of both players will be a big boost for SSG as they battle for the top spot.
McCarty went 7-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 13 games this season, while Heredia batted .339 with 10 home runs and 56 RBIs in 76 games.
Key hitters Choi Jung, who injured his left thigh on May 5, and outfielder Ha Jae-hoon, who broke his left thumb on May 11, joined the first team at the start of the second half.
Choi will start against LG as the No. 3 designated hitter and Ha Jae-hoon as the No. 6 hitter in left field. 파워볼
