Gangwon FC lost 1-2 at home against Suwon Samsung in the 24th round of the Hana WonQ K League 1 2023 at Gangneung Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m. on April 22.

Prior to the match, Gangwon was in 11th place with 16 points and Suwon was in 12th place with 15 points, but on the day, Suwon took the three points to move up to 11th place with 18 points. Gangwon has now gone 14 games without a win (six draws and eight defeats) and four draws and two defeats in six games since Yoon Jung-hwan took over as head coach.

Gangwon lined up 4-4-2 on the day. Park Sang-hyuk and Yago started up top, while Kim Dae-won, Seo Min-woo, Han Young-Kim Jin-ho formed the midfield. Baekpo was formed by Ryu Kwang-hyun, Kim Woo-seok, Kang Too-ji, and Kim Young-bin, with Lee Kwang-yeon in goal.

Suwon countered with a 3-4-3. Kim Joo-chan, Myeong Jun-jae, and Basani formed the back line, while Ko Seung-beom and Kazuki guarded the midfield. The left and right wingbacks were Lee Ki-je and Lee Sang-min, while Park Dae-won, Kim Joo-won, and Go Myung-seok formed the back three. Yang Hyung-mo wore the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Suwon had the first chance of the match in the 14th minute when Kazuki won a back tackle in the Gangwon half, which allowed Basani to shoot from the right side of the box, but his shot went wide of the left side of the goal. Suwon then threatened Gangwon’s goal with a cross from the left flank through Lee Ki-je.

In the 19th minute, Gangwon tried to strengthen their offense by removing Park Sang-hyuk and introducing Gabriel, but it was Suwon who opened the scoring. In the 22nd minute, Kim Joo-chan received a cross from the left side of the box, and while facing the defense, he curled the ball with his right foot into the top right corner of the goal.

Looking for an equalizer, Gangwon rattled the net in the 31st minute when Gabriel connected with Ryu Kwang-hyun’s right corner kick, but the goal was disallowed due to a collision between Lee Min-woo and goalkeeper Yang Hyung-mo beforehand.

However, Gangwon eventually equalized nine minutes later from the same right corner kick. In the 40th minute, Ryu Kwang-hyun’s corner kick was not cleared properly and in the ensuing scramble, Kim Young-bin’s shot was redirected by Min-sin-woo, who calmly finished.

In the second half, with both teams battling for control, Gangwon took off Kim Jin-ho and Ryu Kwang-hyun and introduced Yoon Seok-young and Alibayev, while Suwon brought on Jung Seung-won in place of Lee Sang-min.

With the score tied at 1-1, Suwon took off Myung Jun-jae and Bassani and brought on Gum Yeol and Jeon Jin-woo.

In the 12th minute of the second half, Gangwon missed a crucial chance. Alibayev penetrated inside the left box and sent in a grounded cross that flew past Yang Hyung-mo and landed on the toes of Yago in front of the goal, but it was high.

Suwon capitalized on the opportunity. In the 15th minute, after receiving a penetrating pass inside the left box, Chun Jin-woo calmly turned and passed to the onrushing Go Seung-beom, who didn’t miss and slotted the ball into the back of the net with his right foot. It was a scene that stood out for its quick development through one-touch passing.

Gangwon added strength to its offense in the second half by substituting Yoo In-su for Min Seok-woo in the 16th minute and Gallego for Yago in the 25th minute. Kangwon tried to attack Suwon’s goal through crosses from Yoon Seok-young and Alibayev on the left flank. In the 41st minute, Alibayev cut in with his right foot from Suwon’s left half-space but was blocked by the defense.

With six minutes of extra time, the game ended in a 1-2 defeat for Gangwon as the equalizer remained elusive. 토토사이트
