New York City’s latest statement showed the official start of gambling. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a new spending plan worth about US$216.3 billion. It can also strengthen and expand the land-based casino sector, along with allowing the New York Game Facility Location Board to issue application requests.
New York State has long been preparing for the expansion of face-to-face gambling, with four gambling centers currently in operation in Upstate New York, and seven casinos in the state, including these three, which is targeted by many in the gambling sector.
New York City was one of the potential places where versatile casinos could operate on a daily basis. But this week budget manager Robert Mujica said three future hotspots would be in New York’s Downstate, though the budget did not specify the area. The new casino license will attract the attention of many casino operators, and the competition will be considerable.
Some of the competitors include MGM Resorts International and Genting Malaysia, which already operate gaming properties in the state. In late 2021, the New York State Gaming Commission announced a request for information on potential candidates seeking to apply for a full commercial casino license in Downstate, New York. The issue of downstate casino licenses was delayed when the commission abandoned the opportunity to position state commercial casinos in the industry.
Governor Hochul’s overall budget is $4 billion more than last year’s, and Rep. Gary Pretlow (D-Mount Vernon), chairman of the standing committee of the Korea Racing Authority, also commented on the topic and pointed out that this year’s spending plan is heading in the right direction.
Mr. Pretlow is a prominent supporter of online sports betting and horse racing in the state. He made it clear that the new licenses that casino operators will acquire would bring in as much as $2 billion in gambling revenue. Once casino branches start operating, many new jobs will be created and people in the community will have the opportunity to work for big casino companies.
Resorts World is one of the casino operators that supports this casino expansion at the state level. The leader made it clear that Downstate New York has the potential to be unexplored and that the Queens area could benefit from a full casino license. Yonkers-based Empire City Casino, on the other hand, expects 2022 to expand its gaming operations in the state of New York.
MGM Resorts’ real estate has already applied for a full commercial gaming license with the New York State Gaming Commission last year. MGM Resorts believes this expansion will bring billions in revenue to the Bronx.
