Paul Burns, the first Canadian to be inducted into the Sports Betting Hall of Fame

Recently, Paul Burns, president and CEO of the Canadian Game Association, is now part of history. On July 13, 2022, at a special event in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the game official became the first Canadian to be inducted into SBC’s Sports Betting Hall of Fame. Since his appointment in 2018, Mr Burns has played a major role in developing the country’s gambling industry.

SBC’s Sports Betting Hall of fame was introduced in 2016 and recognized individuals who have made positive contributions to the sector. Along with Mr. Burns, three other industry leaders were also included in the 2022 rating. Vice President UBBookaking Sandy Drozd, Vice President of Strategic Partnership and Marketing at VsiN, Vincent Magliulo, Sports Book Director Chris Andrews at South Point Hotel.

Mr. Burns played an important role in the development of the Canadian Game Association in 2005 and in 2018 he was appointed CEO of the Canadian Game Association. He has also contributed to the creation of research and programs across many industries, including research on the economic impact of Canadian gambling, as well as the development of the Canadian Games Summit.

The trade association president and CEO, who played a big role in creating Ontario’s iGaming market and decriminalizing single-event betting, said he was surprised by his induction laws. He said working with everyone in the industry is a tremendous experience, and being able to participate in the industry is blessed and privileged.

But his efforts to develop the sports betting sector do not end here. He shared that he will now focus on strengthening the country’s land-based sector. He said despite the launch of online sports betting in Ontario, the country still has not opened sports books across its territory, and this will be one of his main goals for the future.

Mr Burns predicts that one of the biggest obstacles for the local gaming industry is to keep up with the rapid technological development of the gambling industry. He said Canada has a great ecosystem for innovation, and new products for fan engagement and prediction tools are constantly emerging. But industry leaders must ensure that this evolution continues.

Ontario’s mobile sports betting and gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. Most recently, the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission, a regulator, announced that it has launched services in the Balibeti market. As of Thursday morning, a total of 19 operators were running more than 30 gambling sites and apps in the state. More services are being offered.

In April, when the state officially began its iGaming model, the Canadian Game Association issued a statement to congratulate the local government. In it, the association said the new regime allows the state to compete in the market, provide much-needed income for the state, while also resetting its priorities for the gaming industry.
