Japanese game company Sega Sammy Holdings said its Wonderbox indoor theme park, part of a joint venture of Paradise City Casino Resort in South Korea, will open in the first half of next year.
Sega Sammy confirmed that other facilities in Paradise City’s Phase I and Phase II opened on Sept. 21, reporting fiscal first-half results that ended on Sept. 30. Phase I of the plan had a total investment of nearly $1.4 billion, according to the initiative’s promoter.
Paradise City is operated by Paradise Segasamy, a joint venture between Segasamy and Paradise Inc., a foreign-only casino operator in Korea.
In a recent filing, Sega Sammy said it will increase its efforts to promote Paradise City among potential customers in Japan. Sega Sammy also said it will continue to send employees to Paradise City to learn how to build and operate casino resorts.
Sega Sammy is a prospective developer and operator of casino resorts as laws that allow gambling in casinos come into force in Japan.
Segasammi reported that the parent owner’s profit fell to just over 6.7 billion yen ($59.46 million) in the first half, down 62.3% year-over-year. Net sales in the first half fell 12.2% to just over 171 billion yen.
Net sales of the Segasammi resort business grew to just over 5.18 billion yen in the first half of 2018, up from just over 4.77 billion yen a year earlier. Losses in the resort business in the first half shrank to nearly 1.18 billion yen from nearly 1.3 billion yen a year ago.
