Kangwon Land, the country’s only casino resort, confirmed on Thursday that five students who tested positive for COVID-19 have since stayed at Kangwon Land complex’s High1 Hotel from July 3-4 after receiving a phone inquiry from GGRA (pictured).
Kangwon Land officials also told GGRA Asia that as officials did not visit Kangwon Land casino facilities, the resort’s gaming facilities were still operating, although capacity was reduced following pandemic response measures.
Kangwon Land Resort is located on a remote highland east of the capital city outside Seoul.
As of 12 a.m. on Friday, South Korea recorded 1,316 new COVID-19 cases, a new daily record, in the 24 hours since the first case was reported in the country on Jan. 20, 2020. Friday’s data recorded 165,344 confirmed cases, including 2,036 deaths, according to the ministry.
South Korea announced Friday that it will place the Seoul area in Level 4, the strictest social distancing rules available in the country, amid fears there could be a fourth wave of new COVID-19 cases over the summer, Yonhap reported.
According to information gathered by GGRAsia’s Korea correspondent, casinos located in the affected areas at Level 4 must close by 10 p.m. daily.
