‘611 Consecutive Games’ Geumgang Bulbulguk Samsung’s Lee Jung-hyun Injures Left Knee

Geumgang Bulguk’s streak of consecutive appearances is in jeopardy.

In the fourth meeting of the season between Seoul Samsung and Wonju DB in the 2023-2024 Korean Basketball League at Jamsil Gymnasium on June 6, Samsung lost 73-87.

Just over a minute into the first quarter, Lee Won-seok left the game with a fractured nose.

To add insult to injury, Lee Jung-hyun went down with just over three minutes left in the third quarter.

Lee collided with an opponent while defending and fell down holding his left knee.

He was unable to get up from the court for a while, but was helped to the bench by a trainer.

Lee, nicknamed Geumgang Bulguk, has played in 611 consecutive games from October 15, 2010,

when he was a member of Anyang KGC (now Jung Kwan-jang), to January 6, 2024.

That’s good enough for first place in KBL history, and the gap between him and second-place Lee Jae-do (LG) is 419 games, a record that won’t be surpassed for a while.

Samsung is in 10th place this season, but Lee has been on fire,

averaging 10.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 23 minutes and 12 seconds per game in 29 appearances.

After the game, acting Samsung head coach Kim Hyo-beom said,

“I think Lee Won-seok has a broken nose.

I’m not sure about Lee Jung-hyun yet.

We’ll have to go to the hospital and get a diagnosis.”

Samsung’s next game is an away match against Daegu KOGAS on August 8 at Daegu Gymnasium.

It’s still unclear if he’ll be able to play, but if he can make it through the game,

he’ll be able to keep his streak alive.
