European casino operator Casino Austria AG wants to build a casino resort with 220 game tables and 2,200 slot machines in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, it said in a press release released earlier this week, citing media reports.
Japan’s Nagasaki Prefecture said on Tuesday it had selected Casino Austria International Japan Inc as a partner in the local government’s interest in holding an integrated resort (IR).
Casino Austria International Japan Inc. is a subsidiary of European casino operator Casino AG. According to information available on the latter corporate website, the company owns 12 casinos in Austria, as well as its lottery business, Austria Lottery. The parent company controls Casino Australia International Ltd., investing in several casinos and other gaming-related businesses internationally.
In a press release providing details on the IR proposal for Nagasaki, Casino Austria said the casino’s total footprint would be about 9,000 square meters (96,875 square feet).
The 30-hectare (74 acres) site adjacent to the Huis Ten Bosch Amusement Park in Sasebo City is the preferred site for IR by local government authorities in the Nagasaki region. Huis Ten Bosch Theme Park is operated by Huis Ten Bosch Co., a subsidiary of Japan-based HIS Co. Ltd. The facility replicates the famous buildings and architecture of the Netherlands, but is Japan’s semi-concentrated semi-concentrated semi-concentrated landscape.
According to media reports on Casino Australia’s announcement, the company’s proposed IR project expects a total of eight hotels, complemented by conference and exhibition centers. Hyatt hotels will reportedly be one of its lodging partners.
Japanese local governments interested in attracting integrated resorts must first select a business partner and apply for a business partner right to that local government. Under the relevant laws, up to three resorts are allowed in Japan.
