Sydney McLaughlin (24) set a world record in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the U.S. Track & Field Trials for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, starting her quest for a second straight Olympic Games.

McLaughlin crossed the line in 50.65 seconds in the women’s 400-meter hurdles final at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, U.S., on Monday.

The world record is 0.03 seconds better than the 50.68 she set in July 2022 at the same venue to win the 2022 World Athletics Championships.

“I’m really surprised, I’m embarrassed, I’m shocked,” McLaughlin told NBC Sports.

Second-place Anna Cochrull clocked 52.64 and third-place Jasmine Jones clocked 52.77 to join McLaughlin in qualifying for Paris.
